Dukan Diet – Low Carb and Low Fat

The Dukan Diet is the latest low carb weight loss diet to appear on the scene. Actually it isn’t all that new. The French have had access to Dr. Dukan and his low carb diet for several years. Now it is available to us in the English speaking world. This is anothe low carb diet but instead of being high in fat like Atkins the Dukan Diet is low fat as well as low carbohydrate.

Dr. Pierre Dukan created the diet almost by accident, or so he says. He had a friend who was very overweight beg him to help him to slim down. Dr. Dukan told him to eat only lean meat, poultry and fish and to drink lots of water. The friend came back to tell Dr. Dukan that the method had been extrmeley successful. He had lost pounds while eating the food he liked and never feeling hungry.

When he learned of the almost accidental success of the diet Dr. Dukan began to learn more about nutrition and health. He went on to help hundreds of people to slim down. He introduced the Dukan Diet to people in the UK last year and it has become a very popular way to lose weight. Now he is bringing his low carb low fat weight loss method to the United States.

The Dukan Low Carb Low Fat Diet has four distinct stages -

  1. Attack
  2. Cruise
  3. Consolidation and
  4. Stabilization

In Stage 1, the Attack phase you eat only lean meats, fish, eggs  whites and poultrywith nothing else except water and seasonings for your protein meals. During the dukan diet attack phase you lose a lot of weight.

In stage 2 ‘Cruise’ you begin to alternate between the lean protein only days as in the ‘Attack’ stage and a day when you can eat your lean protein plus an approved  vegetable. You continue in this stage until you reach your ideal weight.

In Stage 3 called ‘Consolidation’, you begin to introduce more foods as directed by Dr. Dukan.

Finally the Stabilization stage is the one you stay on for life. You can eat normally every day except Thursday. On Thursday you eat only lean meat as in the ‘Attack’ phase. By doing this you will be able to conquer your tendency to pile on the punds.

Dr. Dukan pays a great deal of attention to this final part of the dukan diet. He knows that the hardest part of any weight loss plan is when it is meant to be over. That is when the pounds will pile on again. By keeping you on the diet for life the dukan diet aims to prevent weight regain

There ar eplenty of ideas for meals without carbs or fats. You will find that the foods you can eat are very delicious and will be a welcome part of a lifetime plan to keep that fat from coming back.
